Pregunta : Por favor, ¿ puede decirme en que consiste el Juramento Hipocrático ?
Respuesta : El Juramento Hipocrático tiene su origen en Hipócrates, médico griego considerado el padre de la medicina. Este juramento hace referencia a una serie de normas o principios éticos que el médico jura respetar.
Antiguamente en nuestro país se hacía una bonita ceremonia en la cual los nuevos médicos al graduarse realizaban el “juramento”. Aunque ya no suele realizarse este ritual, médicos y psicólogos estamos obligados a una buena “praxis” y al cumplimiento de ciertos preceptos.
El Juramento Hipocrático ha servido de base e inspiración para otros códigos deontológicos como por ejemplo, la Declaración de Ginebra o Código Deontológico de la OMS (Organización Mundial de la Salud).

Josef Breuer and Sigmund Freud presented “Mental Catharsis” as a new method of investigating and treatment of hysterical symptoms. They described it in their book “Studies in Hysteria“, published in 1895.
Breuer and Freud found that symptoms subsided when , (the patient under hypnosis) they had succeeded awakening the memories with its accompanying affect, and the patient discussed the emotionally traumatic situation and gave verbal expression to that affect.

Who is Charcot ?
Charcot was outstanding french neurologist who developed a system of hypnosis as treatment of hysteria. He was also Freud master.
Jean M. Charcot demonstrated the traumatic power of emotional disturbance in provoking the manifestations of the disease and managed the elimination of the hysteric symptoms through suggestion and hypnosis.

Dr. George M. Beard (1830-1883) published a paper entitled “The Influence of Mind in the Causation and Cure of Disease and the Potency of Definite Expectation” ?
He said : fear, anger, grief, wonder and expectation were the most likely to produce disease. This is what Psychosomatic Medicine regarded nowadays.
Psychosomatic disorders are diseases or symptoms in the body which are partially or totally related to the emotions of the person.
