Family Therapy is a special method for treatment of emotional disorders.
Actually, Family Therapy is a kind of Group Psychotherapy where the group is the family; in others words, it is a psychotherapy of the family.
By tradition, one member of the family is viewed as sick and is put as the identified patient. Actually, sometimes several or all members of the family are disturbed, although in different ways and to different depths.
Because all members are affected the therapist works with the entire family. His goal is the dissolution of pathogenic conflict and fear, and the support of residual forces toward health.
This type of psychotherapy was used very much in the families of schizophrenics patients.
