Narcotics Drugs

Narcotic drugs are classified into two groups.

1 .- Opium and its derivatives, Morphine, Narcotine, Papaverine, and Codeine.

2 .- Their synthetic equivalents, such as Methadone.

Originally it was thought that each of these drugs was not addictive. Subsequently it was shown that all narcotics cause addiction.

Derealization

Did you know that…..

the administration of some antihistamine drugs as well as some narcotic drugs may produce  unpleasant feelings of unreality called Derealization ?

sleep deprivation also can lead to unreality feeling ?

This feeling is not delusional. The patients describe a subjective feeling of unreality in reference to the external world or in the passage of time.

Patients who experience unreality feelings may occasionally find them accentuated if treated with one of the phenothiazine drugs. The intravenous administration of Chlorpromazine eliminates this paradoxical reaction.
