Old Psychiatry described a peculiar syndrome occurring among the Eskimos living around the Hudson Bay, which is known as Whitigo or Windigo.
The patient falls into a brooding mood, fearing that he has been bewitched. He becomes afraid that he may crave human flesh, and become a “Whitigo”. A whitigo is a supernatural figure, made of ice, which devours humans( (Cannibal).
Eskimos think a good shaman can counter the bad shaman’s spell. If no “good shaman” is available, the patient may kill somebody and eat him.
